Cars, Bills, and Food

Me and my husband just seem to have no luck. I have been looking for a job for almost a year now and have been unable to find one other then working for my family for a few hours a month to earn $50 or so. Now the head on the car is cracked, it needs a nwe thermastait, new belts, an alternator, and a new battery it\'s a 91 Ford Probe and all this happened right after we spent all of our savings which wasn\'t much about $100 to get our daughter some stuff for Christmas. Not to mention my husbands truck needs new motor mounts and tires. I have no idea how much it will cost for all the stuff to get fixed on the truck and the car. We just fixed the car a few months ago we had to replace the power steering pump and the water pump. Now with out a car I can\'t look for a job or even do any work for my family which just puts us further behind. And if anything happens to the truck my husband wont be able to go to work at all. We had to borrow the money to pay our gas bill and my hus!
band is trying to pay that off but the only time he can do that is on Saturdays for four hours or so you see he is working it off. If they come to fill up our gas tank again we will have borrowed over $1000 just to have heat and so we can cook. Just about all the money my husband makes goes to pay our other bills and we are lucky if we have $35 left to buy food with. I just feel worthless since I can\'t find a job to help out my family and I wish things would just change in our favor. I know some people will think poorly of me, but I don’t know what else to do. Things have gotten so bad, that I’m afraid I will lose my home due to foreclosure. I’m going to be 64 soon and finding work with a steady salary gets harder and harder. Sometimes I get a day’s pay working at supermarkets that are remodeling and that really helps. My last commission job let me go because they too were having money problems. They owe me over $4,000.00 and refuse to pay me. It’s their word against mine, so I will never see that money.
My son works two jobs to try to make ends meet, but both of them cut his hours several months ago. He has gone from 70-75 hours per week to 35-40. Now we are unable to make the mortgage payments. We can’t get food assistance until my son has enough pay stubs to prove his hours were cut. I do all I can to be frugal, I canceled cable almost a year ago, we don’t use the dishwasher or clothes dryer (we hang our clothes outside to dry). Both our cars are in constant need of repair and have failing transmissions.
His is a 1988 and mine is a 1997, mine has no heat so winter mornings can be really cold. We run the central heat as little as possible, less than once a week. We do have a fireplace, so my son cuts down trees and I sleep bundled up in front of it on cold nights.
God has been good to us in many other ways though, so I try my best not to complain. Neither of us have health insurance, but so far we have had no major problems, which is good. I also get a lot of pleasure rescuing cats and dogs, and the rescue groups that I help, pay for their food. The animals give me so much pleasure. But, if I lose my home the animals have no place to go, all the rescue groups are overcrowded, so they will probably be put down.
My church is not wealthy and they are helping other families. They don’t need and can’t afford to be burdened with me too. I know these are desperate times and there are so many people that need help, you may think, why should you help my son and me. I don’t have a good answer to that question, but if you could find it in your hearts to spare a dollar or two for a family in need, my son and I would be eternally grateful. Christmas trip ruined cause car broke down

i moved to oklahoma 2 and a half years ago. i married my beautiful wife and was going to take her to meet my family for the first time. A couple of weeks before the trip the water pump in our car breaks and wont make the trip. Medical and Household Bills

Today is one of those days in which I am convinced that I am not wired correctly. I did a silly thing years ago. I married for love, not money. I wouldn’t change a thing; however, not a day passes without my co-workers telling me that “love don’t pay the bills”.

The economy is shit right now. I realize you rich folks out there don’t feel the pinch, except, perhaps, in your 401K or in the stocks that you hold. As the bills mount, it becomes clear that I am underpaid and underappreciated at my job. I do have job security, which many are not fortunate enough to have. I have seen countless people laid off just in the last month.

Switching jobs is not the best option right now, especially with the holidays approaching. I work plenty of overtime, but having had 2 surgeries in the last year and missing 12 weeks of work set me back quite a bit. There must be a better way to pull in some extra cash. Most normal folks would take on a second job or do some creative investing. I am not normal. I know what I want and I want it now. I want as much money as possible with the least possible effort. Thank you, Econ class, for teaching me my financial ethics. I took a look at my set of skills.

Medical Bills
